Corruption and state capture were burning issues informing debates on the elections. \nThe Democracy\, Governance and Service Delivery Unit of the Human Sciences Research Council together with Corruption Watch will be hosting a seminar on perceptions of corruption and the 2019 general elections. The HSRC has been conducting research on the extent to which corruption impacts on elections in South Africa. Corruption Watch is a civil society organisation that is committed to fighting corruption in South Africa through various means\, including raising public awareness about corruption and receiving reports of corruption directly from the public. \nThe seminar will address questions such as: \n\nHow did the perceptions and the facts on corruption influence the electorate?\nHow did political parties respond to the outcry against corruption?\nWhat does the ANC election victory in the face of rampant corruption tell us about the South African public?\nHow will discontent with corruption inform future voting patterns\, if at all?\n\nFollowing the election results\, this is an appropriate time to reflect on corruption in South Africa\, how this affected voter behavior and the 2019 election results. It is also an opportune time to look to the future and consider how efforts to combat and raise public awareness about corruption can impact the next elections. \nKindly RSVP by 31 May 2019.\nPLEASE NOTE: This is one of three venues for the same event that will run simultaneously in Pretoria\, Cape Town and Durban.
