Corruption Watch (CW) executive director Lebogang Ramafoko will on Friday 20 March 2026 lead community leaders and anti-corruption activists working across the Eastern Cape in delivering the preliminary findings of a local government corruption risk assessment (CRA) report to the provincial legislature.
The report is the culmination of a CRA undertaken in 2025 as part of the Strengthening Action Against Corruption (SAAC) project. It identifies selected municipalities in the province as being at risk of corruption due to weaknesses in governance protocols across several of their functions, including procurement, contracting and recruitment.
Alongside Ramafoko will be SAAC lead Nontobeko Gcabashe as well as leaders of the community-based organisations (CBOs) assembled under the project. Also on the agenda is a presentation by a representative of the group of CBOs that will highlight their common experiences in engaging with municipalities from their different areas on service delivery issues like water supply, housing allocation and the poor state of roads.
The visit is part of the advocacy leg of the SAAC, in line with the project objective of holding local government authorities in the province accountable to their communities.
SAAC was launched in 2024 and is a collaborative effort between CW, the Social Change Assistance Trust, and Transparency International.
