Social justice expert
Lebogang is a seasoned development, gender and social justice expert with over 30 years’ experience in the field. She draws from her own life experience as a black woman who grew up in apartheid South Africa, thrust into activism at an early age, combining it with the skills she acquired through her training to speak out against injustice wherever she goes. Throughout her career Lebogang has sought to address the social and structural barriers that perpetuate poverty, inequality, and marginalisation of various groups at a local, national, and global level.
Lebogang holds a bachelor’s degree in Education, a postgraduate diploma in Applied Ethics from Wits, and master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’ Kennedy School of Government. She is an outspoken feminist strategic thinker who has always been vocal about injustice and inequality. She led organisations dealing with social justice, notably the Soul City Institute of Social Justice, Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity in South Africa, and Oxfam South Africa.
Her strength is finding creative and innovative means to address social justice issues. She has not shied away from topics or commentary that will make her unpopular with those in power. Even when politically convenient narratives surfaced, she remained steadfast in advancing what was ethical rather than what was expedient. She has always reflected genuine community needs and priorities in all her advocacy work, rather than external or partisan pressures. She is an independent thinker who speaks her mind without fear or favour and leads with passion and honesty.
