Corruption Watch will release its 10th annual corruption report, titled Pushing for change, on Thursday, 31 March at 08h00, as the organisation commemorates 10 years since its establishment in 2012.

This special edition report includes an overview of the organisation’s anti-corruption efforts since inception, highlighting the journey leading up to activities in 2021. The report reveals how Corruption Watch, alongside the courageous efforts of its whistle-blowers, has been pushing for change throughout turbulent times in South Africa.

Corruption Watch was launched in the early days of the Jacob Zuma administration. At that time, public services were rapidly declining while corruption was on the rise, enough to mobilise a concerned group of people to establish an organisation focused on tackling the problem. Then came the state capture years and the central role played by whistle-blowers prepared to expose corruption on a grand scale, followed by the devastating impact of the global pandemic.

Through this past decade, Corruption Watch has been at the forefront of uncovering the corrupt acts of political, public and private sector leaders who have blatantly pursued their own corrupt agendas, acting with impunity while whistle-blowers’ lives have been increasingly threatened.

The report highlights areas of concern reported by whistle-blowers to Corruption Watch, including the growing corruption trends and sectors that are considered vulnerable to corruption. In addition, it exposes the gaps that exist in the fight against corruption and reveals some of the steps taken to tackle corruption through collaborative efforts.

Importantly, this report is dedicated to whistle-blowers, the unsung heroes in the fight against corruption.

Pushing for change will be published electronically and will be accessible on 31 March 2022 at 08h00 on the Corruption Watch website.
