MEDIA ADVISORY: CW tackles mining-related issues at 2020 AMI

At the 2020 Alternative Mining Indaba, which runs from 3 – 5 February in Cape Town, Corruption Watch will host two important sessions that address specific challenges in the extractive industry sector, and the impact on communities affected by mining operations. The sessions respectively focus on the issue of beneficial ownership in sustainable mineral development, and the role of traditional leadership and governance in terms of land, mining and corruption.

2019 CPI shows political integrity as key to anti-corruption efforts

The 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index, released today by Transparency International, highlights the importance of the relationship between money, political power and corruption. South Africa again shows no improvement in anti-corruption efforts and, says CW’s David Lewis, the failure, after a year, to bring the Political Party Funding Act into operation does little to inspire confidence in the strength of government’s will to tackle corruption.
