The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJCD) has issued a call for written public comments on proposed reforms to South Africa’s legislative whistle-blower protection regime. Proposals are contained in a discussion document which may be downloaded for perusal.

The 162-page document’s release follows recommendations made in the report of the Zondo commission, and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s subsequent remarks on the matter in his response to the Zondo recommendations. The DoJCD conducted research and comparative analyses of whistle-blower legislation in several countries including the US, UK, New Nealand, Australia, and Canada, as well as African countries including Namibia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ghana.

The comments period opened on 29 June 2023.

Submissions must be received by no later than Tuesday, 15 August 2023.
