The Bill gives traditional leaders the right to enter into agreements on the use of land without the consent of the most affected groups – this effectively enables traditional leadership structures to dispossess people of their land without either their agreement or expropriation.
On Wednesday 27 November 2019 the parliamentary portfolio committee on justice and correctional services said it would recommend that the National Assembly resolve not to restore Nomgcobo Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi to their previous high-level positions at the National Prosecuting Authority. President Cyril Ramaphosa suspended Jiba and Mrwebi in October 2018 and dismissed them in April 2019.

Dineo Skosana, who is a researcher and PhD student at the University of the Witwatersrand. In her PhD research, she investigated what communities lose because of coal mining. The research was conducted in Ogies, a town that lies 29km south-west of Witbank (Emalahleni), in Mpumalanga province.
NGO Enact Africa’s latest Organised Crime Index shows how crime has infiltrated and infested South Africa and other African countries. On the index for criminality, South Africa was ranked at number 10 out of 54 African countries, with high scores for both criminal markets and criminal actors. However, it scored well in terms of resilience to crime.
