Former president Jacob Zuma used the opportunity of a media briefing at his Nkandla home on Sunday evening to take a swipe at both the judiciary and the current administration, likening the state of affairs to apartheid-type rules of persecuting people because of who they are and not the crimes they have committed.

Deputy minister of military veterans Thabang Makwetla has told the state capture commission that the document purported to be a report of the parliamentary ethics committee that found him guilty of breaching the members ethics code over his relationship with Bosasa is not authentic and cannot be used as evidence.

Neither former president Jacob Zuma, nor the police, have a right to interfere with the functioning of the courts, and in that regard the warrant of arrest ordered by the Constitutional Court against him last Friday should never have been ignored by either, as it still stands. This was argued by Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi on Tuesday before the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

Jacob Zuma is staying in jail and Ace Magashule remains suspended by the ANC. The former president’s bid to stay his arrest based on an order of the Constitutional Court was dismissed by Judge Jerome Mnguni in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday, while the party secretary-general’s matter was heard in the South Gauteng High Court.
