Here’s a snapshot of some of the schools incidents* we’ve received from the public recently, so you can get a feel for the kind of trends we're picking up: a power struggle at a school that resulted in a corrupt principal being appointed; a deputy principal at a college buying expensive software that never materialised; and a treasurer, principal and finance officer colluding in a dodgy procurement deal.

“Mismanagement and financial irregularies of Ms ***, she forceful placed our principal Mr *** to *** Primary School. She advertised the post without the involvement of the S.G.B. During interviews she recommended to parents in the interviewing panel to appoint Mr ***, who did the following: he flawed the procurement policy by using his company to renovate the school, without providing 3 quotations as required by SASA. He unilaterally install a Telkom landline which was used by him alone although he had a Blackberry phone with units which all school principals are provided by the department of Education.to our surprise every  month the school incurred an exuberant telephone bill. School trio cook tender price

“The Treasurer, School Principal and Finance Officer have ignored the resolution of a school adjudication committee and School Governing Body and changed the amounts of the school tender without following procedures. They paid the contractor immediately after changing the amounts before he completed the job. These payments are unauthorised and irregular in terms of departmental prescripts and South african Schools Act since they should have been authorised by SGB Chairperson. They are also not allowed to change the resolutions of the School Governing Body. Please investigate.

Principal siphoning off school funds

“At *** School in Vosloorus, Mrs. *** the principal is mismanaging the school funds. Firstly, nepotism in the school; the principal chosen her brother in law as a chairperson of the school governing body. she also employed the wife of the SGB chairperson as the aftercare home work supervisor. She use the school money for her personal staff. She called an AGM where she gave the parents an audited statement with figures that are not balancing. The school was donated R100 000 by Lotto where the principal got the money and not disclose it to the other member of the school and the parents. No one knows where the principal use the money for. Mrs. *** paid a huge amount of money to the contract  to build the school ground , the school ground was never built up to date. The school  keep R66 000 for petty cash, lastly we find out that the petty cash too is missing. There's a guy who was employed by the principal as an administrator, collecting school fees from parents, no records on how much was/ is  collecting from parents. The principal pays the company who supply the school with cartridges many times in the month. When we ask her, she always lie about it. Please investigate.”
