CSO coalition asks Zondo to probe private sector role in state capture

More than 20 civil society groups – including Corruption Watch – have submitted their recommendations to the Zondo commission on how to reform the state and private sector in the wake of state capture. The group cautions against turning to the private sector to find solutions, saying that “banks, law firms, consultancies and accountants sit at the heart of the economy which enables corruption”.

Corruption Watch is delighted at the the final decision of the Constitutional Court to dismiss Cash Paymaster Services’ application for leave to appeal the Supreme Court of Appeal judgment that ordered them to repay R316-million to the South African Social Security Agency. However, the organisation cautions, this is not the end of the matter as those who authorised the illegal payments must still be brought to book.

Put state capturers in jail, Mr President

A group of civil society organisations, led by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, have called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to prioritise the plight of the real victims of state capture – women, children, the working poor, and other ordinary citizens. The group urged the president to urgently impose punishment in the form of jail time on those linked to state capture, and to fire anyone in his government who is implicated.
